How it began
We grew up in Kenya, and giving back was part of Koy from day one. In the early years, that meant smaller donations to a range of local projects. As Koy grew, so did what we could do: first a long-term partnership with a children's charity, and then our most ambitious project yet.
OUR LATEST PROJECT · 2025–2026
A SAND DAM IN KENYA
Growing up in Kenya, we saw what drought does to rural communities: hours lost every day walking for water, failed crops and children kept out of school. So in January 2025 we committed £40,000 to build a sand dam with the Africa Sand Dam Foundation and Sand Dams Worldwide. A sand dam stores rainwater beneath the sand of a seasonal river, giving a community a permanent, clean water source.
The Ngiluni–Utuneni Earth Dam was completed at 1pm on 14 February 2026. Where people once walked more than four hours a day for water, it is now 30 minutes away. The dam provides:
- Over 40 million litres of water capacity
- Year-round water, stored safe from contamination and evaporation
- Clean, safe and closer water for more than 3,000 people

A determined group of our customers flew out to Kenya to help the local community finish their sand dam. In just three and a half days they contributed more than 400 hours of hands-on work, helping to shift, mix and lay over 550 bags of 50kg cement.
To every supporter, every donor, every community member and everyone who picked up a shovel: we couldn't be prouder of what we achieved together. Thank you.

2019–2025 · OUR FIRST MAJOR PARTNERSHIP
EAST AFRICA CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT TRUST
In February 2019 we visited the East Africa Character Development Trust (EACDT) for the first time, and made our first donation of £2,176. Over the next three years, our support grew to £9,576.
We were so impressed by what the EACDT achieved that in February 2022 we committed £10,000 a year for three years: a £30,000 target, or 6 million Kenyan shillings.
THE IMPACT
2,177 CHILDREN
Our donations funded 952 character education sessions for 2,177 children (1,082 boys and 1,095 girls).
The sessions built confidence by asking the children to work through the issues affecting their own lives, from gender-based violence and crime to drug abuse and teenage pregnancy. The aim was simple: to help them work hard, develop their talents and aim high, and to give them the tools for a brighter future.
