Where the 20% Goes: What Koy's Profits Have Funded

Where the 20% Goes: What Koy's Profits Have Funded

Twenty per cent of Koy's profits go to projects in Kenya. It's a line on our website and a promise we make to every customer, and it would be reasonable to ask what it actually means in practice. So here is where the money has gone: more than £90,000 so far.

How it began

In the early years the donations were smaller, and spread across a number of local projects. There was no grand plan. We gave what the business could afford, learned which organisations used it well, and gradually concentrated on fewer, longer relationships.

Children: the East Africa Character Development Trust

Our first visit to the East Africa Character Development Trust was in February 2019, with a donation of £2,176. Between 2019 and 2021 we gave a further £9,576 in total. In February 2022 we committed to £10,000 a year for three years, £30,000 in all, and we met that target in 2024.

The result is measurable: 952 sessions, reaching 2,177 children.

Water: the Ngiluni–Utuneni sand dam

In January 2025 we committed £40,000 to build an earth dam at Ngiluni–Utuneni, working with the Africa Sand Dam Foundation and Sand Dams Worldwide. It was completed in February 2026.

A group of 15 customers joined us on site to help build it. Between them they put in more than 400 hours over three and a half days and carried more than 550 bags of cement. The dam holds over 40 million litres, serves more than 3,000 people, and has turned a four-hour walk for water into a thirty-minute one.

Why we spell it out

We'd rather show you the figures than ask you to take our word for it. If you buy a Koy shirt or a jumper, a fifth of the profit from it goes to work like this. That's the whole arrangement, and we think you're entitled to see how it's spent.
