OUR NEXT CHARITY PROJECT: We are building something very special...🇰🇪💧
Dear Friends,
We are thrilled to unveil our next charity project!
So far we have proudly donated over £50,000 to charity projects. You can read all about this on our website 'Story Page.
The time has come to announce our new project idea:
WE ARE GOING TO BUILD A SAND DAM IN KENYA!
What is a Sand Dam?
Providing year-round safe water (THIS IS NOT A NORMAL DAM!)
A Sand Dam is a reinforced stone masonry wall built across a seasonal sandy river. They have almost no maintenance costs and can last for upwards of 60 years (the oldest known in operation being over 100 years old).Â
Â
Water behind a Sand Dam raises the water table in the surrounding area which improves the soil, creating better conditions for crops and grazing. More trees can be planted which ensures that more water infiltrates the ground and less soil is washed away – creating a virtuous cycle of soil and water conservation. The water is filtered by the sand and is also drinkable!!
Â
During the rainy season, the Sand Dam fills with sediment-laden water. The heavy sand is deposited behind the dam, while the light silt is carried downstream. Unlike a normal dam, as much as 97 to 99% of the water flowing in the river continues downstream, therefore having ZERO NEGATIVE IMPACT on other habitats further down stream.

Koy Clothing is inspired by our home - Kenya, and with this inspiration, comes responsibility...
From the moment our first blazer was stitched in 2016, we made a promise to always recognise and value the inspiration we get from our upbringing in Kenya. Part of the way we do this is by donating 20% of profits to charity projects in Kenya, helping the people, the place and the wildlife.Â
As always, if you have any questions please don't hesitate to get in touch by simply replying to this email.
Our main warehouse is in the UK and delivers worldwide. However, we do have a Kenya warehouse and a bespoke Kenya order process. So, if you're shopping from Kenya, click on 'Kenya Shopping Page' below:
